USHIO America Introduces its L-Series (Long Life) DXL Digital Xenon
lamps
(April 2012)
USHIO has quickly become the leading xenon lamp manufacturer for today’s digital cinema projectors from Barco,
NEC, and Sony. USHIO’s DXL series of digital xenon lamps
achieve the highest performance for digital cinema
projection. Digital cinema projectors have a more complex
optical system than that of film projectors and require
lamps with much higher brightness and a more stable arc.
USHIO’s DXL series are 20-50% brighter than that of standard
film lamps of the same wattages. DXL lamps are optimized to
meet technical standards especially for digital 3-D
screenings.
USHIO has a series of new L-series (long life) lamps for the Barco projectors. The new DXL-30BAF/L extends the warranty from 1500
hours to 1700 hours and is available from inventory this month.
A wide variety of new L-series (long life) lamps
will be available this summer for Barco projectors.
In addition, USHIO will be introducing two new
L-series (long life) lamps for the NEC projectors early this
summer. The new DXL-45SN/L extends the warranty from 1,000 hours to 1,300 hours; and the new DXL-60SN/L extends the warranty from 600 hours to 800 hours.
New lamp types will also include
DXL-12SN, DXL-15SN, DXL-30SN2 and the DXL-21SN3 and
are all approved by NEC for use in their projectors.

Shortage of Phosphors Impacting Fluorescent Lamp
Pricing
(August 2011)
The lighting industry has been greatly impacted
by the shortage of Rare Earth Oxide (REO)
phosphors. REO phosphors are a critical cost
component in the manufacture of fluorescent lamp
and more than 95% of the worlds REO phosphors
are mined in China. China has cut export quotas
causing extreme volatility in REO phosphor
price. Due to this, it has made it necessary for us to
monitor and review our costs on fluorescent
lamps on a monthly basis and in many cases, to
limit order quantities to stock on hand until
the market for rare earth phosphors has
stabilized.
We appreciate your patience and understanding on
this critical issue. Related Articles:

Efforts to Harmonize Regulations for Lamps
Containing Low Level Radiation Emitters
(June 2011)
Most lighting industry professionals are aware that
many discharge lamps contain very low level
radiation emitters to facilitate starting and
enhance lamp lifetime.
These materials are used in some of our HID lamps
(metal halide lamps, high-pressure and super
high-pressure UV lamps, and xenon lamps). Although
some products may contain small amounts of these
materials, their effects on the human body and
environment are negligible as assessed by the IAEA
(International Atomic Energy Agency) and independent
research institutions. Our other products, such as
halogen and NSH lamps for example, do not require
these materials.
USHIO and other major lighting industry
manufacturers, support efforts to harmonize these
regulations and to simplify the commercial
availability of these widely distributed products.
You and your customers may hear about these
activities and have questions. Thus, we have
provided some basic information and frequently asked
questions in the links below.
