High Intensity Discharge Lamps and Ballasts
Magnetic Ballasted probe start Metal Halide systems may no longer be used for new fixtures as of January 2009. Mercury Vapor ballasts cannot be produced or imported as of 2008. Mercury Vapor lamps may be sold for use in appropriate, non-pulse start, Metal Halide ballasts. Many MH ballasts are rated for Mercury Vapor lamps and include the equivalent codes for reference. Mercury Vapor Lamps will likely be completely phased-out in
January 2016 due to new, pending
regulations.
All lamps not mentioned above, including Photolithography, specialty and short arc lamps, are not covered by energy efficiency regulations and will NOT be discontinued.
